Alleged serial thief arrested for breaking into over 50 cars
Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested an alleged serial thief responsible for breaking into over 50 cars in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs over the last few months.
The alleged thief broke into 52 cars between March and May this year in Brighton, Carnegie, Murrumbeena, St Kilda and Toorak and stole various items from the vehicles.
Detectives executed a warrant in Oakleigh East this morning, uncovering power tools, identity cards and various stolen property.
A 42-year-old Oakleigh East man has been charged with 10 counts of theft from motor vehicle as well as obtain property by deception, deal in the proceeds of crime and disqualified driving.
It’s expected he will be charged on summons in relation to the remaining offences.
He has been remanded to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 16 June.
