Local Ivanhoe residents capture burglar at Ivanhoe apartments

Some good work by a local resident early this morning (the 19th of July 2022), which resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old male for attempted burglary.
At approximately 3:40am, a local resident observed the male enter the private area of an apartment complex in Ivanhoe. The male then allegedly attempted to force entry into an underground secure car parking/storage area.
The local resident called 000, and alerted police to the incident.
The local resident, and some other local residents, then detained the male, with police from the Banyule Tasking Team attending within minutes.
The male was arrested by police, and was subsequently charged with attempted burglary and other associated offences. This male will be off to see the magistrate in Heidelberg at a later date.
Once again, the community working with police had resulted in a good outcome, however police recommend that rather than confronting or detaining people who are up to no good, the community contacts 000 immediately, and provides as much information as they can, and police will then attend.
