Search for footage following fatal shooting in Greenvale

Friday 15 March 2024 4:20am –

Homicide Squad detectives are urging anyone with dashcam footage from the Greenvale area to come forward following the fatal shooting of a man in the suburb on Tuesday morning.

A 64-year-old Greenvale man was leaving his Buchanan Place property just after 4.30am on 12 March when he was fatally shot in the upper body.

A family member located him outside the address shortly after the incident, however he passed away at the scene.

No one else was physically injured during the incident.

The investigation into the incident, which is believed to have been targeted, remains ongoing.

Detectives are still to determine how many offenders were involved in the incident or how they left the area.

A significant CCTV canvass of the area has already been conducted and police are in the process of reviewing that footage in the hope it will provide further avenues of enquiry.

Investigators are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was travelling through Greenvale or Gladstone Park, particularly in the vicinity of Mickleham Road, between 2am and 6am on Tuesday 12 March.

Detectives are hoping this footage will provide further information on any vehicles that were in the area in the lead up to and shortly after the shooting.

Information can also be provided to police anonymously, including any information about who was involved or the motivation behind the shooting.

Detectives are looking at a number of possibilities including any links to organised crime groups.

Local police are also conducting regular patrols of the area this week following the fatal shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Quotes attributable to Detective Senior Sergeant Danny Travaglini, Homicide Squad:

“From some of the footage we’ve obtained, it appears there was quite a bit of traffic already in the area on the morning of the shooting.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who was driving through the Greenvale or Gladstone Park areas between 2am and 6am on Tuesday morning and has dashcam footage.

“At this stage we’re looking to collect all footage from between those times, so if you do have any then we’d urge you to contact Crime Stoppers.

“We’re hoping this may lead to further avenues of enquiry in relation to our offenders and how they travelled to and from the victim’s house. Any small detail could prove crucial in this investigation.

“This shooting was particularly concerning for police given it occurred in such a publicly violent manner. We are doing everything we can to find those involved and hopefully the right piece of dashcam footage could give us a breakthrough.”
